Renting A Charter Bus For A Wedding: What You Need To Know

While many people tend to think of limousines when they think about wedding transportation, a charter bus is often a more practical option. Not only do charter buses offer more room for transporting guests, but they're also easier for brides with large/poofy gowns to enter and exit. Before you book a charter bus for your upcoming wedding, however, there are some things you should know.

Choose the Right Size for Your Needs

Charter buses come in a huge range of sizes, so you'll want to determine who you will be offering transportation services to. Some couples will choose to rent a charter bus for use by their wedding party, including bridesmaids and groomsmen. Others may want a charter bus to transport all of their wedding guests. In some cases, it may be a good idea to book more than one charter bus (for example, one for your bridal party and one for the rest of your guests) to suit your needs.

Confirm Policies on Food and Drinks

Charter bus companies can also vary greatly in their policies on allowing food and drink on the bus. This will be especially important if you plan on having any alcohol on the bus, which is not uncommon for weddings. If this is the case, you'll need to find a charter bus company that has a permit to allow alcohol on-board. Also keep in mind that if your bus allows alcohol, there may be age restrictions on who can ride; specifically, guests under the age of 21 may not be permitted.

Save Money With Two Separate Rentals

If you're looking to save money on your bus rental, many couples will make two separate reservations rather than paying for one longer bus reservation. This way, you can only pay for the hours when you're actually using the bus (such as before the ceremony and at the end of the reception) rather than the entire day. Not all bus companies offer the option of making two separate reservations in the same day, so you may need to shop around a bit here.

Don't Forget About Driver Gratuity

Some bus companies will include a standard gratuity with their quote, whereas others may not. If your quote doesn't include this, be sure to add about 20% to your transportation budget to account for driver tip.

With these tips in mind, you'll be on your way to choosing the right transportation for your special day!
